Garden Festival

An invitation to all local schools

Gardening Competition
This year’s theme is Edible Gardens. All participating schools will be given a crate (approximate size: W 60 cm X D 40 cm X H 22 cm) to plant up, along with compost and seeds in January 2020.

You will be given as many crates as you request, and free seeds which you may use if you wish! Alternatively, please feel free to improvise or use ready-made plants that you have sourced yourself as well as decorations.

The suitcases will be collected in the week beginning 22nd June and the festival itself takes place on Saturday 27th June throughout the centre of St Austell. We will be in touch to confirm collection the date closer to the time.

Edible Garden – Extra!
We’re also growing a very special edible garden, which will be set-up on the day of the festival. You’ll be able to harvest from the garden then take the food to a cooking workshop and then eat it! If you’d like to help make this garden, we can also give you a tub, packet of seeds and compost to grow one very special crop for our edible garden.

The Festival
On the day of the festival, specially appointed judges will choose the most attractive crates which also best represent this year’s theme: Beach Plastics. First, second and third place crates will be awarded prizes.

We will have stalls, bands, games and other activities for adults and children. We hope to have a really lovely family friendly day so do please invite all of your parents and their families to attend! You can follow us on Facebook @StAustellGardenFestival

To help you with this project, we’d also like to offer your school a selection of talks & workshops around relevant themes and support growing for the competition. Please get in touch to discuss how we can support your involvement with this year’s gardening competition and garden festival.
